Contact your campus Boren Awards representative early

Campus reps are experienced in advising applicants, can help you strengthen your application, and often set internal campus deadlines so you can receive feedback before the national deadline—please follow any on-campus timelines they provide.
Application system notes
- The Boren Scholarships online application is composed of twelve sections plus a final review/submit page.
- To move through the application in sequence, use the “continue” button at the bottom of each page.
- The left-hand navigation will only let you jump between sections after you have saved at least one field in a section. The system saves entries automatically, and you can revise your answers at any time until you submit the application.
1. Eligibility determination
This section verifies whether you meet the basic requirements for the Boren Scholarship. If your answers indicate you are ineligible, you will not be able to proceed. You must answer every question in this section to unlock the remainder of the application.
Key eligibility points:
- U.S. citizenship: Only U.S. citizens may apply.
- Minimum age: You must be at least 18 years old at the time you submit your Boren application. If you will turn 18 only shortly before the deadline, wait to submit until after your 18th birthday.
- Enrollment status: You must be a matriculated undergraduate student at a U.S. college or university as of the Boren Scholarships application deadline.
- Current institution: Select the U.S. institution where you are enrolled as of the application deadline. You can update this if it changes before you submit.
- Proposed overseas destination: Indicate the country (or countries) where you plan to study abroad; you may change this choice later.
- Citizenship of destination: Boren recipients are not permitted to study in a country of which they are citizens. You will be asked whether you hold citizenship in the proposed destination.
