American Meteorological Society Graduate Fellowships
Scholarship Sponsored by American Meteorological Society
Overview
The AMS Fellowship Program offers distinctive opportunities for exceptional students preparing to begin graduate studies in atmospheric or closely related sciences. Since the program’s inception, 388 students have been named AMS Fellows. The fellowship aims to prepare first-year graduate students to understand and address pressing, real-world environmental challenges. Recipients receive financial assistance, invitations to special events at the AMS Annual Meeting as honored guests, and continued academic and career mentoring from the Society.
The Society strongly encourages applications from women, members of underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, and students with disabilities—populations traditionally underrepresented in atmospheric, oceanic, and hydrologic sciences.
Eligibility
To qualify for the fellowship, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be entering the first year of graduate school in the fall of 2026. (Applicants who already hold a master’s degree are ineligible.)

- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident. There is no age restriction.
Stipend and Meeting Support
