Overview
The Material Handling Education Foundation, Inc. (MHEFI) is an independent nonprofit dedicated to encouraging and supporting students to enter the material handling, logistics and supply chain fields through financial aid. Since 1976, MHEFI’s programs have assisted more than 1,500 students and educators pursuing education and career paths in these industries.
Award information
- Award range: $1,500 to $6,000 (multiple scholarships are available).
- A single application places a student in consideration for all Foundation scholarships; however, recipients will receive only one award each year.
- Scholarships are granted for one academic year. Previous awardees who still meet eligibility criteria may apply again.
Applications for 2026/2027
- There are two distinct application tracks for the 2026/2027 academic year: one for incoming freshmen and a separate application for students entering sophomore, junior or senior standing for Fall 2026. Choose the appropriate application when applying.
Who may apply (Student Eligibility)
To be eligible for the 2026/2027 academic year applicants must:
- Be a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a career in material handling, logistics or supply chain at an accredited, qualified U.S. institution in one of the target programs listed below.
- Be classified as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior for Fall 2026.
- Attend a non-profit U.S. college or university accredited by the Council for Higher Education.
- Maintain at least a “B” average in their major.
- Plan to remain enrolled for the full academic year (Fall 2026 and Spring 2027) without interruption, except for documented illness, emergency, or military service.
- Note: Scholarship funds may not be applied toward study abroad semesters or programs.
Target programs encouraged to apply
Undergraduate majors with emphasis in material handling, logistics or supply chain management are preferred. Examples include:
- Industrial Engineering
- Industrial Distribution
- Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
- Structural Engineering (with emphasis on cold-formed steel design)
- Engineering Technology
- Computer Science related to material handling & supply chain
- Business & Management related to material handling or supply chain management
- Imaging and camera-based vision systems, bar codes/RFID, LIDAR/RADAR sensors
How to apply (step-by-step)
1) Request a recommendation
- Start at https://MHEFI.smapply.org to create your account and request a recommender. Enter the name and email of the faculty member, professor, or employer who will recommend you.
- The recommender will receive an email with a form. Once they submit it, you will be notified by email so you can continue your application.
2) Provide short-answer responses and list activities
- Complete the required short-answer questions and supply details of extracurricular involvement, work experience, and honors/awards.
3) Upload resume and supporting materials
- Attach a current resume and any supporting evidence that demonstrates your interest and experience in material handling, logistics, or supply chain (examples: research papers, project summaries, white papers, case studies, or a video).
4) Submit an official transcript
- An official transcript must be sent directly from your institution. Ask your school to email a secure, printable download link to mammons@mhi.org or mail a hard copy to:

- Incoming freshmen should request an official transcript from their high school.
- Transcripts sent directly by students will not be accepted because they cannot be authenticated.
