ASLA Florida Chapter Career Discovery Scholarships

Introduction
Established in 2019, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Florida Chapter Career Discovery Scholarship supports students enrolled in an LAAB‑accredited landscape architecture program at a Florida university. The award recognizes applicants who demonstrate the values of the profession and potential for contribution in design or research.
Eligibility
Applicants must be currently enrolled in an LAAB‑accredited landscape architecture program at a Florida university and meet one of the following:
- Undergraduate students in their first three years of study; or
- Master's students pursuing a first professional degree in landscape architecture (applicants must not already hold an undergraduate degree in landscape architecture).
Selection criteria
Applicants should exemplify the profession’s ideals in scholarship, service, and ethics. Evaluation factors include commitment to landscape architecture, leadership, service and volunteerism, design ability, academic achievement, and financial need.
How to apply
Refer to the General Application Guidelines for instructions on using the online application portal. All materials must comply with stated guidelines and be received by the deadline to be considered. Additional or late materials will not be reviewed.
Required materials
All LAF scholarships and fellowships require the following core items; in addition, the ASLA Florida Chapter Career Discovery Scholarship requires the specific items listed afterward.
Core submission items:
1. General Submission Form
- Complete the online form with your contact details and program information.
2. Photo
- Submit a color headshot (JPG) at least 1800 x 1200 pixels. The image should be horizontal, well‑lit, with a simple background, and show the entire head and shoulders. LAF reserves the right to use submitted photos on its website and in materials promoting LAF scholarship programs.
3. Bio for the LAF website (150 words maximum)
- Upload as PDF, Word, or TXT. In 150 words or fewer, summarize your background, current studies, future goals, and relevant interests or activities.
4. Resume or CV (maximum 2 pages)
- Upload a PDF including education, work experience, extracurriculars, and honors/awards. Add the following to each page header or footer: Applicant Name / Resume / Scholarship Name, and page number.

5. Financial Aid Form
- Complete the online financial aid form detailing your financial situation and any existing assistance.
6. Two Letters of Recommendation
- Provide each recommender’s email address; they will receive submission instructions. Letters should speak to your leadership, academic ability, volunteer/service, and commitment to landscape architecture.
7. Essay (maximum 2 pages; 500 words or less)
- Upload an original PDF. In 500 words or fewer, describe your leadership, academic aptitude, volunteerism, and commitment to the profession. Formatting: no more than two pages, margins at least 1", font size 10‑point or larger, and no images or graphics. Include Applicant Name / Essay / Scholarship Name and page number on each page.
8. Work samples (maximum 3 pages)
- Combine up to three 8.5" x 11" samples into one PDF. Each sample must include explanatory text. For group projects, indicate that it was a group effort and clearly describe your role. Add Applicant Name / Work Samples / Scholarship Name and page number to each page.
