Overview
The Carrington-Philbert Scholarship provides a one-time award of $2,500 to an incoming freshman enrolling at a U.S. college or university.
Who is eligible
- Applicants should be Black / African American.
- Candidates must intend to enroll at a U.S. institution — either a two-year community college or a four-year college/university — as an entering freshman.
Required materials
When submitting your application please include:
- Official or most recent transcript
- A current photo
- A letter of recommendation (this is required)
- A short essay addressing: “What has been your driving force in your pursuit with education?”
If your transcript and/or recommendation cannot be uploaded with the rest of your application, send them by email to usaapplications@cpscholarship.com and put the applicant’s full name in the message subject line.
Deadline, award notification, and documentation
- Applications must be received by May 1 of the current year. Late submissions will not be considered.
- Winners will be notified and their names posted on our website.
- Award recipients must provide proof of enrollment before funds are released.
Payment
Scholarship funds will be disbursed in September and paid directly to the recipient’s school.
University of the West Indies — Undergraduate Awards
The Carrington-Philbert Scholarship also offers one-time awards for first-year students beginning studies at the University of the West Indies (UWI). Applications for UWI awards are submitted directly through the university. Please apply via:
