Scholarship Sponsored by Louisiana Gas Association

Value: $5,000.00
Awards Available: 3
Deadline : Jul 15, 2026

Introduction
The Louisiana Gas Association (LGA) supports public education and public relations initiatives as part of its charter, including scholarship programs for qualifying students enrolled in accredited four-year colleges and universities. Since 1998, the LGA has awarded more than $258,000 in scholarships.

Eligibility
To qualify, the applicant must be the son, daughter, legal ward, or dependent of an employee of one of the following:

- An LGA member company that has been active for at least one full calendar year prior to the scholarship application deadline.
- If a member company provides multiple utilities, products, or services, eligibility requires that the employee’s job duties are primarily (50% or more) related to the natural gas transmission or distribution industry.
- The member company’s operations must primarily (50% or more) be based in Louisiana.
- A current or former LGA Board member employed by an active LGA member company (these applicants are eligible even if the company’s primary work is not based in Louisiana).

Additional eligibility conditions:
- The employee must complete the required employee verification form, which must be signed by the company’s primary representative and mailed with the scholarship application. Applications submitted without the completed, signed employee form will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed.
- An LGA member company is considered active and eligible if any of its employees attended the LGA Annual Operations Conference or one of the LGA Educational Seminars during the previous calendar year.
- Applications will be reviewed without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability, or veteran status.
- Previous LGA scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive another award.
- Employees of Individual or Special Members, and those members themselves, are not eligible.

Academic Criteria
Undergraduate Applicants (Juniors/Seniors)
- Must be enrolled full time at an accredited four-year college or university, or in a combined program that includes a four-year institution plus a specialty school (for example, nursing programs).
- Must have completed at least 60 semester credit hours (classified as a junior or senior).
- Must be 25 years of age or younger at the time of application.
- Must be currently enrolled when applying.
- Should demonstrate well-rounded involvement through extracurricular activities, club participation, community service, or leadership roles.

Master’s Degree Applicants
- Must be actively enrolled in a Master’s program at an accredited institution.
- Must show evidence of academic achievement and leadership in their field.
- There is no age limit for Master’s applicants.

Scholarship Awards and Selection
- The LGA Board of Directors may change award amounts from year to year; final awards are determined by consensus of the Scholarship Committee.
- Current award structure:
- College Juniors/Seniors: Up to ten awards of $2,500 each for qualifying undergraduate juniors or seniors.
- Master’s Degree: One or more awards of $2,500 for students pursuing a Master’s degree.
- Competitive Scholarship: One award of $5,000 for an applicant demonstrating extraordinary achievement beyond the normal selection criteria.

Application Deadline
- All parts of the application, including the signed employee verification form and required supporting documents, must be postmarked by July 15 to be considered.
- Scholarship recipients are typically announced and awarded in August.

Questions about eligibility or the application process should be directed to the LGA office prior to the July 15 deadline.
