Overview
AFCCE provides cash scholarships twice yearly—each Spring and Fall—aimed at junior, senior and graduate students who plan to pursue a career in telecommunications engineering. The AFCCE Scholarship Committee also manages the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society/AFCCE Jules Cohen Memorial Scholarship, the E. Noel Luddy Memorial Scholarship (sponsored by Dielectric, Inc.), and the Byron St. Clair Memorial Scholarship.
AFCCE Scholarships — Combined Application — Fall 2026
Available awards and typical amounts
- AFCCE Scholarship: typically $500 to $2,500.
- IEEE BTS/AFCCE Jules Cohen Memorial Scholarship: $5,000 or $10,000 (with a cumulative maximum of $15,000). Applicants for this award must express an interest in broadcast engineering or broadcast technology.
- E. Noel Luddy Memorial Scholarship (sponsored by Dielectric, Inc.): up to $2,500.
- Byron St. Clair Memorial Scholarship: up to $1,000 (available to community college and other lower-division students as described below).
One combined application covers consideration for all scholarships for which an applicant meets the eligibility criteria.
Eligibility requirements
Upper-division and graduate scholarships (AFCCE, IEEE BTS/AFCCE Jules Cohen, E. Noel Luddy)
- Enrollment as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited 4-year institution in the United States or Canada.
- Undergraduates must have junior or senior standing for the semester applied for.
- Graduate applicants must be enrolled in an accredited Master’s or Doctoral program.
- Major or coursework must be related to telecommunications engineering (an engineering major is not required).
Byron St. Clair Memorial Scholarship (open to lower-division and community college students)
- Enrollment as either part-time or full-time undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited associate or 4-year program, community college, or applied technical school in the United States or Canada.
- Major or coursework must be related to broadcast engineering or broadcast technology (an engineering major is not required).
Application deadlines and timing
- Spring semester application deadline: October 31.
- Fall semester application deadline: May 31.
Applications received after these cutoff dates may be held and considered for the next semester.
Selection and administration
All awards are reviewed and selected by the AFCCE Scholarship Committee. Applicants who meet the published eligibility criteria will be considered for every scholarship for which they qualify; only one application is necessary to request consideration across the AFCCE-administered scholarships.
Supporting the scholarship fund
- Individual donations to the AFCCE Scholarship Fund are accepted at any time and are a meaningful way to support training the next generation of broadcast engineers.
- Corporations may contribute via the designated corporate donation link. Corporate contributors are recognized at the following levels: BRONZE $250, SILVER $500, GOLD $1,000, PLATINUM $2,000.
