Introduction
The Lift Up Our Voices Scholarship seeks to increase the representation of women-identifying students and students of color in music composition. The Founders Scholarship awards $3,500 to a candidate who meets the eligibility and application requirements below.
Who is eligible
- Intends to pursue an undergraduate degree in music.
- Identifies as a woman or as a student of color.
- Will be an entering college freshman and plans to enroll full-time at a U.S.-accredited institution of higher education in fall 2025.
- Has a high school GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Application materials (required)
- Up to two representative musical compositions (maximum of 2 works).
- A brief biography.
- A short statement outlining your goals in music composition and explaining how this scholarship will support those goals.
- Two letters of recommendation, including at least one from a music teacher, that address your achievements in music/composition and your potential for continued growth.
- A PDF resume summarizing relevant musical experience; include information about any performances of your compositions (performance documentation is optional).
Selection process
A selection panel composed of music and composition experts from a variety of backgrounds will choose the scholarship recipient. Click here for more information.
Award terms
If selected, you agree to allow Lift Up Your Voices, Inc. to use your name, image, likeness, and a short biography on the organization’s website and in promotional materials related to future scholarship fundraising.
