Continuing Christian Education Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Episcopal Church In Mississippi
Introduction
Each year several named scholarships are awarded to Mississippi students to help cover college expenses. The awards were created as memorials and endowments by individuals and organizations connected to the Diocese of Mississippi and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral. Recipients are chosen by the Diocese scholarship committee (see Selection Committee below).
Misticos Scholarships
Established by the late Alexander Misticos in memory of family members, four Misticos Scholarships are given annually: one to a young woman and three to young men. Eligible applicants must be members of either the Greek Orthodox or Episcopal faiths and may use the award toward attendance at the college of their choice.
Warren Scholarships
The Warren Trust Scholarships were founded by the late Robert Warren of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral. Their eligibility standards closely mirror those of the Misticos awards, with a preference for female applicants. Recipients are selected on the basis of financial need and demonstrated excellence in academics, leadership, extracurricular achievement, and service or leadership within their church.
Charlotte Capers Scholarship
The Charlotte Capers Scholarship supports Episcopal students from Mississippi who are pursuing a liberal arts education. Awards are made yearly, and applicants who demonstrate financial need are given priority.
Okolona Scholarships
Funded by the Trustees of the Okolona College Endowment, these annual scholarships are available to Black college students (male or female) from Mississippi. Selection is based on financial need, academic record, and leadership potential. Preference is given to Episcopalians, though applicants from any church are welcome to apply.
Adams Episcopal Scholarship Endowment
This annual scholarship is designated for an undergraduate who is an active member of an Episcopal congregation within the Diocese of Mississippi and is enrolling in either the engineering or business college at Mississippi State University. Candidates must have satisfactorily completed a high school college-preparatory curriculum or its equivalent. While enrolled in high school, applicants must have participated in an organized, school-sponsored athletics program and/or an organized, school-sponsored music program. The qualifying high school may be a public Mississippi school or a private college-preparatory school inside or outside Mississippi.
Selection Committee
All awards are decided each year by the Scholarship Committee, which includes the Bishop of the Diocese of Mississippi, the Dean and the Wardens of St. Andrew’s Cathedral, and members of the Diocese’s Executive Committee and Trustees.
