Introduction
The Jayda Dionne Parker Scholarship Fund exists to help a qualified student in Florida A&M University’s (FAMU) School of Journalism and Graphic Communication cover college costs. The award is open to any applicant who satisfies the stated requirements, without regard to age, race, sex, or sexual orientation.
Award Amount and Timing
The scholarship totals $2,000. An initial payment of $1,000 will be disbursed for the Fall 2025 term. The remaining $1,000 will be paid in December 2025 for use during the Spring 2026 term.
Eligibility
Applicants must be accepted to or enrolled in FAMU’s School of Journalism and Graphic Communication and meet the application requirements listed below to be considered for the 2025–2026 scholarship cycle.
Application requirements
To be considered for the 2025–2026 academic year, applicants must submit all of the following:
1. A completed online application form.
2. Proof of acceptance to, or current enrollment in, FAMU’s School of Journalism and Graphic Communication.
3. Two letters of recommendation from non-family adults (for example: a teacher, counselor, community leader, or other adult). These must be submitted using the Reference Submission Form linked below.
4. An official academic transcript sent by mail to:

5. An essay of approximately 500 words (no more than 750 words) uploaded as part of the online application. The essay should demonstrate how the applicant reflects Jayda Dionne Parker’s qualities of hard work, compassion/service to others, and a determined drive to succeed, and must include:
- A description of a major life, mental, or physical obstacle the applicant has faced and overcome,
- A summary of how that experience changed the applicant, and
- An explanation of how overcoming that adversity has shaped the applicant’s future goals and plans.
