How to prepare
Review the sections below—Eligibility, Application Checklist, Essay prompts, and Expectations—to prepare a competitive submission.

Eligibility
To be considered for the Caleb Scholars Program (CSP), applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be of Alaskan Inuit heritage within the CSP service area — either an enrolled tribal member or a direct descendant of a tribe from the Norton Sound, Northwest Arctic, or Arctic Slope regions.
- Be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university.
- Undergraduate applicants:
- May be enrolled full-time or part-time.
- Have completed at least 36 credit hours.
- Maintain a cumulative and current GPA of at least 2.5.
- Graduate applicants:
- May be enrolled full-time or part-time.
- Maintain a cumulative and current GPA of at least 3.0.

Application checklist
Complete submissions must include:
- Completed application form.
- Answers to the short-answer prompt and the essay questions.
- Current unofficial transcripts.
- Class registration for the upcoming semester verifying full-time or part-time enrollment.
- One letter of recommendation that speaks to your fit for the Caleb Scholars Program (see our letter of recommendation packet for guidance).

Essay prompts

Short answer (up to 100 words)
- Describe your connection to an Alaskan Arctic Inuit community within the Caleb Scholars Program service area.

Essays (100–300 words each)
- What does Inuit-led conservation advocacy mean to you, and how will your academic program and degree help you pursue those objectives?
- Caleb Scholars can receive supplemental funds for things like travel, paid internships, conference fees, class- or research-related equipment, community presentations, and similar activities. If selected, how would you use these funds?

Expectations for selected Scholars
Caleb Scholars are driven, capable, and focused on contributing to conservation and community leadership. While participating in the Program, Scholars are expected to:
- Take part in a mentorship.
- Engage in extracurricular learning and advocacy (for example: conferences, webinars, our Virtual Qargi sessions, and other advocacy activities).
- Complete the required Positive Community Citizenship Training.
- Remain in compliance with the Program Policies to maintain eligibility.
