Eligibility
- Who can apply: Students in their final year of high school (seniors preparing to graduate) and young adults who plan to enroll in college or vocational/trade programs.
Program overview
The Oscar Grant Foundation College & Trade Scholarship offers financial support, mentorship, and encouragement to graduating high school students and young adults entering postsecondary or vocational training. The award targets applicants who show academic commitment, a record of community service, and personal development.
Application requirements
To be considered, applicants must submit the following by the deadline:
- A fully completed application form
- A two‑page personal essay outlining your goals, accomplishments, and how you intend to contribute positively to your community
- One letter of recommendation from a teacher, school counselor, or community leader
- Any additional required supporting documents
Selection process
- Initial screening: Applications and documents are reviewed for completeness and eligibility.
- Interviews: Applicants who advance will take part in a panel interview with the Oscar Grant Foundation Scholarship Committee.
- Decision: Recipients will be selected based on the full application package and interview.
Recipient commitment
Awardees must volunteer at three (3) OGF events within the year following the award to remain engaged with the Foundation’s mission.
Evaluation factors
Applications are assessed on these core elements:
- Completeness of the application
- Strength of the recommendation letter
- Quality and community impact described in the essay
- Performance in the panel interview
- Timely submission of all requested documents
