AHFC supports residents who are pursuing career advancement through its Education Scholarship program. Award recipients may receive federal assistance up to $2,500 to help pay for a range of educational and training goals, from short-term technical courses to college tuition.

Eligibility
- Applicants must be current recipients of AHFC public housing rental assistance (voucher program) or live in a unit owned by AHFC.
- Adults are eligible if they intend to enroll in a vocational, trade, or academic program.
- High school seniors may apply if they plan to begin a vocational, trade, or academic program in the semester immediately following high school graduation.

Approved Schools and Allowable Uses
- The school or training provider must be located within the State of Alaska.
- Scholarship funds may be applied to tuition, required books, and fees that are directly connected to the student’s education.
- Eligible uses include short-term, skills-focused training (for example, culinary courses, welding programs, or computer classes), professional development activities (such as travel career academies), and longer academic programs (one-, two-, or four-year college degrees).
- The institution or program must be recognized by one of the following:
- Alaska Post-Secondary Education Commission Eligible Schools & Programs
- Alaska Department of Health
- Alaska Department of Family and Community Services
- Alaska Department of Labor Eligible Training Providers List (ETPL)

How to Apply
- When the application window opens, the online application will be posted (linked from AHFC’s website). Follow the instructions on the application for submitting supporting documents electronically.
- Applications that are missing required information or submitted after the deadline will not be accepted or considered.

Required Supporting Materials
- Two letters of recommendation: These should come from individuals familiar with you — teachers, employers, property managers, caseworkers, or friends — and explain why they support your scholarship application.
- Essay: A written statement describing your educational, vocational, or economic objectives and detailing any community involvement or activities that demonstrate your path toward self-sufficiency.
- Academic record (required only for current students):
- High school seniors applying for post-secondary enrollment must provide their most recent report card.
- Current post-secondary students must submit their latest transcript.

Deadline
- The 2025 application period closed on May 31 at 5:00 p.m. Alaska time. Applicants are encouraged to apply during the next cycle.

Selection Process
Decisions are made by a selection committee using the following factors:
- Timely submission of all required materials;
- Completeness of the application;
- Quality of the two letters of recommendation;
- Content and clarity of the applicant’s written essay describing goals and self-sufficiency efforts.
