Scholarship Application — Overview
The Brooksville Education Foundation (BEF) was founded in 2000 to broaden educational opportunities for residents of Brooksville, Maine. The Foundation accomplishes this mainly by awarding scholarships to students pursuing education beyond high school. If you are a Brooksville resident seeking financial assistance for post-secondary study, you are encouraged to apply.
If anything below is unclear after you read it, contact us at brooksvilleeducationfoundation@gmail.com or (207) 326-9194.
Eligibility Requirements
- Residence in Brooksville, Maine: Applicants must be residents of Brooksville. A student is considered a Brooksville resident if they live in town full time. If a student is temporarily living elsewhere for work or school, they may still qualify as a Brooksville resident until age 26 provided they have immediate family members who continue to live full time in Brooksville.
- Age: There is no maximum age for applicants who are Brooksville residents. Adults returning to school or changing careers as well as recent high school graduates are welcome to apply.
- Program enrollment: Applicants must have been admitted to, or be currently enrolled in, an accredited post-secondary program that leads to an associate’s, bachelor’s, or graduate degree, or to an occupational certificate or license.
- Demonstrated financial need: Applicants must submit any financial aid award letter they have received from the institution they attend or plan to attend.
Application Materials
To be considered, applicants must submit a completed BEF scholarship application together with two letters of recommendation and a personal statement.
Selection Preferences
Historically BEF has had sufficient resources to fund all qualified applicants. If, in any year, funds are not enough to award scholarships to every qualified applicant, priority will be given in this order:
1) Returning undergraduates and students pursuing occupational certificates or licenses
2) New undergraduate students
3) Graduate students
Several specific BEF scholarship funds express a preference for applicants in particular fields of study. If no eligible applicants apply in those specified fields, the scholarships may be awarded to other qualified candidates. One application covers consideration for all BEF funds; the trustees will decide which particular fund(s) best match each applicant.
