Suwannee River Fair Scholarships

Overview
Each year the Suwannee River Livestock Association, Inc. provides scholarships to certified members of 4-H and FFA programs who reside in Dixie, Gilchrist, or Levy counties (Florida). Volunteer service at the Suwannee River Fair is a required component of eligibility.
Scholarship awards available
- Suwannee River Fair Association: one $500 scholarship awarded annually to a high school senior who is exhibiting at the current year’s Suwannee River Fair and Livestock Show, to be used for attendance at a university, community college, or trade school.
- Farm Credit of North Florida: annually offers three $500 scholarships for high school seniors exhibiting in the current year’s Suwannee River Fair and Livestock Show, to be used for attendance at a university, community college, or trade school.
Eligibility
- Active, certified members in good standing of FFA or 4-H living in Dixie, Gilchrist, or Levy Counties, FL.
- Must be a high school senior and must be exhibiting in the current year’s Suwannee River Fair and Livestock Show.
- Volunteer service at the Suwannee River Fair is mandatory (see Volunteer Requirement below).
Volunteer requirement
A minimum of 40 hours of volunteer work at the Suwannee River Fair must be completed by February 15 of the student’s 12th-grade year.
Application procedure
1. Complete the approved scholarship application form.
2. Mail or deliver the completed application to the Suwannee River Fair business office: P.O. Box 252, Trenton, FL 32693. Applications must arrive by 4:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday in March.
3. Applications will be judged on the information provided on the approved form, including: financial need, academic achievement (GPA), project record, fair participation, leadership experience, and other personal information.
Selection process
Applications are reviewed anonymously. Recipients are chosen by a committee appointed by the President of the Board of Directors.
Awards and post-award requirements
- Three $500 scholarships may be awarded (in addition to the Suwannee River Fair Association’s separate $500 scholarship). All awards are intended for use at a university, community college, or trade school.
- Scholarship recipients must provide proof of enrollment in a college or trade school within one year of receiving the award. If proof of enrollment is not submitted within that time frame, the scholarship funds will be forfeited to the Suwannee River Fair Association; exceptions may be granted by the Board on a case-by-case basis.
- Recipients are also required to submit a thank-you letter and the proof of enrollment within one year following receipt of the award, or funds will be forfeited subject to the same exception policy.
